When I started looking at the eclipse it really hurt, but once my eyes got used to it I felt hardly anything at all!
If you eyes ever hurt by looking at something, I would advise you to not look at that thing regardless of how cool it might be.

No problem! Google shitting itself and not allowing "Google-fu" anymore is really frustrating, so I totally get it. I've seen some people talk about solutions, but it's something I haven't yet actually made notes on. But it's at least uplifting to know there ARE solutions.
The good news here is that eye pain is a symptom of eyestrain but not of solar retinopathy. Odds are that these folks will be fine (and may well have been using proper eye protection).
