it sucks, we're still trying to contact discord and get it fixed. but i wanted to take a second to point out how it happened, because the method they used was a lot more advanced than what i've seen before.
oof this is wretched...
im definitely no expert but i feel like "trust your gut" is only good advice if you're incredibly paranoid LOL some stuff i have in my head, probably forgetting stuff, just kinda "this is how i live" shit:
- never download anything unsolicited (meaning you didnt ask for it)
- dont click any links unsolicited unless you can certify that its a safe url (youtube or whatever is fine, but make sure its not y0utube or youtube.nu or whatever. url shorteners are a hard no)
- if someone you havent talked to in a while reaches out, thats sus, be on guard
- someone who never dm'ed you, doesnt have that kinda rapport with you, reaches out: sus, be on guard
- keep an eye on ppl's twitter or other socials for "omg i got hacked if i send you something dont click plz"
- if you can, reach out through another avenue (whatsapp, text, etc.) to double check if they got hacked
