Terranova’s Japanese demo has been getting some attention from online gaming magazines like Denfamico and recently, Famitsu.
We’ve been so pleased with the response so far, and are hoping to either:
- get a publisher to help fund the rest of the translation/localization or
- crowdfund the localization through demo pre-sales
Localization for the full game comes in around 200万円 (about $13,400 USD) so we’re hoping we can get those funds to pay our translator fairly.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. ありがとうございます!
I want to be as transparent as possible on where we are in getting the money for translation, and how much money it takes to translate a game. Current numbers are based on pre-sales of the Japanese demo + sales of the English game for the past month.
Get ready to have sticker shock.
Japanese pre-sales: 20,936 yen
English full-game sales (starting Oct 15th): 8,959 yen
== 29,895 yen total, i.e. 1.3% of our goal
This amount of money is usually the kind of money we'd go to Kickstarter for, not Ko-fi. But I'm also very gunshy about using Kickstarter knowing it will take any potential effort we would spend making new games and turn it into effort running marketing campaigns. Any Japanese I write takes at least twice as long for me than a native-level person, so the campaign will be extra difficult.
What we do have though is time and dedication to make new things to feed this revenue stream. I'm willing to stick it out as long as we need to get these funds; I want to see the game in Japanese!
For folks who are interested in seeing a Japanese version: consider making a donation to us to help us pay our translator AND allow us to continue working on new games or buying the demo in Japanese. Every little bit helps!
