i wanted to add some extra detail to a wall in my game cuz it looked really sad and empty... but due to the limitations of doom, unless i wanted to fuck around with 200 3D floors and lose half of my life on 1 detail, i had to do some hacky bullshit.
you see how the building has all those windows? yeah, just a texture. you can't really put that on a cube and slap it in there the traditional way like you would in a "proper" 3D engine in doom because it struggles with geometry that's on top of other geometry (and GZdoom's solution is a bit hacky imo) so what's the solution?
the texture is applied on a paper-thin wall that floats JUST off the edge of the building. i actually had to do it twice because gzdooms texturing for situations like this only lets you either wrap the texture vertically infinitely or once.
just kidding i actually did it MULTIPLE TIMES to put up store signs and a giant billboard on the side of the building too.
it's hacky as shit. but it works. it's only noticeable if you get super close to it in the editor.
i kind of like working with these weird limitations though. idk how to put it.
