my approach to this little solo game project has been to forego a design document and just sort of refine a vague cloud of ideas until it starts to take on a more definite shape, which I think is working out (it's how I do level blockouts, at least) but whewww the scope creep is severe

I honestly believe as a solo dev that a design document doesn't do you any favors. Like you'll surely end up with some NOTES if a project is big enough but the ability to feel vibes and be flexible is one of the big advantages of solo work so keep at it~~!!!

I just pull out my tablet and start jotting down ideas and making little diagrams, up until I’m ready to start actually building stuff. It’s less of a blueprint for what I’m making that continues having relevance and more like the pump priming that gets stuff flowing out of my head and helps me keep track of it until i actually get around to making my idea.

But once i have something playable, i don’t like, go back to my notes and keep adding to them as a prerequisite to building more aspects of the game, though i might make a list of feature ideas as i think of them or people suggest them to me so I can remember that i wanted to do them
