Unlike Disney Dreamlight Valley, the cozy life sim that makes money hand over fist, Gameloft has made good on its intentions to release Disney SpeedStorm on Nintendo Switch for free. So, I played a bunch of it:

It's fine. It's okay, I guess.

I thought this would finally satiate my burning desire to find a racing game on the Switch, but the gameplay feel is actually a bit underwhelming. When you're not boosting, it feels like you're going so slowly. Granted, they want you to boost from start to finish - that's clear enough - but I'm just not going to be able to do that. I do, however, really like the super busy level design. It's not the best racing tracks I've ever seen, but at least they put a lot of effort in them.

All the lootbox stuff...ehhh. Honestly, who is that even for? Kids will definitely get overwhelmed by the two dozen parts you need to unlock and I doubt that onlooking parents will want to navigate the maze of slurp juices and store offers for their little ones. At least it makes ME care less, which is good, because I tend to get Battle Pass Disease, needing to collect every scrap available. Much harder to do when you can barely tell what's what.

I only played for two hours and change tho and did like a dozen or so races. Take that as you will. It's free and you don't need Nintendo Online for the multiplayer. That buys a lot of leeway.

Also cackling, positively HOWLING, at their hamfisted evocation of social media by putting hashtags everywhere, even in the literal first thing you have to do :')
