i'm irrationally optimistic atp, but it would be a real bummer if i only got to use the perfect social media platform for me for less than a year

Honestly Cohost is a lot of fun but what I really want to see is a return to open protocols, and not in the 'fediverse' sense where it's a complicated thing with a bespoke client, but more like RSS where it's a simple protocol and all the features are clientside.

If Cohost went down I'd probably just ... be on discord. not bother with "social media" anymore. I don't really know what I'm getting out of even here anymore, and I miss doing things that aren't just clicking refresh for tiny nuggets of content, when I could be like ... doing things with more substance to them? IG? I want my attention span back.

That's a mood. I mean, I still have my friends on Discord and we share art there, but it's not quite the same as social media. As far as options for posting art, there's still a few out there, but like... I'm tired of shuffling around every few years because nothing quite felt right to me or the CEO pulled a dumb move. This place is cozy and feels actually sane for the most part. I don't want to lose my little warm hole.

after leaving twitter and switching mastodon instances three times i really, really don't have the spoons to rebuild somewhere else

is that a concern atm?

For what it's worth, I've been slowly slogging through the documentation at https://indieweb.org/, and seeing what I can integrate into my own website. I'll look at web-mentions for the blog tonight, which I think gets some decent social-media-ish behavior.

But obviously, that doesn't feel in-reach for everyone.
