I like teaching people how to play board games. My job is talk to computer (bad) and talk to people (good).
would you mind if I checked with the Strong Museum of Play here in Rochester? Does it have its pieces?
Sure! We just opened it and it looks like it has none of the pieces, just the score board cards, the main play area light box, the plays cards, and some cards with spinners on them
Talking to my folks, it's a little unclear what other pieces (if any) it's supposed to have
Oh damn my grandpa had one of these from when my dad was a kid ,we used to play it when we visited for Christmas
I believe those images above are all the pieces, provided you have all the offensive and defensive play cards (I'm not sure how to verify that). You align the cards over the lightbox and pull the tab out to see if the path of the ball encounters a defender, then move the little trackers on the lightbox up or back appropriately until you score or turn over the ball. The spinners are used to adjudicate things beyond pass and run plays. I can't recall how the quarters progress, it may be based on a certain number of plays.
Oooh that makes sense! There were lots of offense and defense cards, but I didn't count exactly how many
