i am remembering the essayposts that went around how Discord is a bad forum replacement because it lowers the cost of a user making a support request, so you end up with people adding all sorts of weird rules to recreate the same barrier to entry that forum registration required.
however: i also see complaints that the cohost feature request forum sucks and that asking someone to register an account to make a feature request means that few people will know or bother to make a feature request. usually there is a desire that your cohost account can just be your login for the feature request forum.
but this is the same scenario for Discorded Forums! people dont want to make an account. the site administration opens a discord because Your Login is Your Discord Account, and somehow that's an unacceptable replacement for forums?
what do people actually want?
