Art Machine, trying to be a person

I beat Sonic Superstars! It was a pretty good game about stuffing animals that are way too large into spaces that are way too small. Spoilers below the cut!

I liked a lot about the game! The levels all had great vibes visually and musically, which is a big factor of my enjoyment of Sonic games. It never felt like it was trying too hard either, which is a vibe I kept getting from Mania, which is, I think, why I could never get into Mania as much? That and the fact that half the game was old zones made it feel less like a new game and more of a "OH MAN YOU WANT YOUR NOSTALGIA TICKLED, RIGHT" experience.

Most of the level gimmicks were fun and I enjoyed most of the bosses, though the last boss was kind of Garbage and will be the reason I never beat the game again.

Trip is great and I love her, and her dragon form is super cool! I'm glad they made her playable after the main campaign, too, though I won't be playing her own campaign 'cause I'm just done with the game now.

Honestly the only outright bad thing I can say about the game is the whole final zone was kinda bad? Those flying worms whose bullets are always right where they need to be before you can react to them are awful, doubly so 'cause their shots tend to Ninja Gaiden you into a pit through no fault of your own. They're even worse in Act 2 when their shots aren't even close to them and are just kind of There to kill you!

It's a shame the final zone is so bad for me, 'cause the zone I THOUGHT was supposed to be the final zone was great! Stopping there would have made for a short-ish game, but that's fine for Sonic games, I think. They've always been more about second (and third, etc) playthroughs anyways, so a shorter main campaign is fine.

Anyways I'm glad I Acquired a copy, and I'm going to think fondly in the game (moreso than most, I'd imagine?), but it'll be a good while before I get the itch to play it again.
