I watched a "this is how you don't play" video for Game Grumps' old Ocarina of Time playthrough, since folks are talking recently about how his Sequelitis video is stupid because he just doesn't know how to play. Why this conversation is happening just now I'll never know, but it was interesting enough to me to check out the whole 2.5 hour video and have it in the background while I worked for a few days.
So the first thing is that I felt very validated by jumping off the Game Grumps train WAY early, because even back then their style of humor wasn't for me, and since that was most of the show since they were too focused on buddying around to play well, I just didn't enjoy it. Going to this huge video, I just couldn't stand the two together :v I'm sure they're funny to a lot of folks and that's great, but it's not for me!
The video was really interesting, showing well how a lot of things Arin said he had a problem with back then are just things he does badly and has no interest in trying to do well, and I thought it was pretty neat seeing all that. Part of it's just being hard to play well WHILE goofing around with a friend AND while making a video out of it, and that's all definitely fair. But he also gets angry a lot about things he's kinda just doing to himself -- it's some of both! (it's also a compilation that's trying to prove a point and could very well be cherry-picked examples that aren't entirely fair. Without watching the actual Game Grumps videos (which I'm just plain not going to do) I can't judge for myself, so I figured it's fairest to note that)
Then I went back to one of today's videos from raocow, who is also pretty bad at video games sometimes, and was surprised how heavily the ill will of the Game Grumps video carried over to the raocow video, just because I'd been sitting in it for so long. I didn't really like that feeling at all! So I think I'm gonna have to be a biiit more careful about what I'm watching.
