Well that’s a way to make the whole “tumblr moves to Wordpress” thing sound a lot more ominous

At the time, he suggested that moving Tumblr to WordPress would be “tricky” but added that new technology like AI would make it easier.

I already reposted this once from someone else but in the intervening day all I can think of is "Move to Wordpress will be seamless, says company about to spend the next five years fixing this."

in reply to @dog's post:

I abandoned Tumblr months ago, there is -no way- that system can ever be adapted to Wordpress at all.

Hell. This whole mess is just making me want to not use Wordpress at all anymore. The software is tainted by these AI techshits.

flashbacks to when deviantart moved over to Wix for no good goddamn reason other than brand synchrony and "look at this big website running on our platform isn't it great!" and they destroyed half of the features and most of the functionality of deviantart in doing so.

oh my god YES. EXACT SAME SITUATION. deviantart moved to wix and then went straight into supporting AI including streamlining generative art creation tools into the workflow.

aside from that ai shitshow they have had a lot of other changes such as "a site that performs worse than it did four years ago", "a layout that takes up 100% of your screen and makes you feel like you're trying to find yourself on a large map", "we disbanded all of our submission organization tools in favor of tagging so you can't find what you want and now you get things not related to your search at all too".....

i dumped DA after using it for over a decade. it was a really hard choice for me but the fact that it PHYSICALLY HURT ME to navigate was a hard point.

I also remember they obliterated my inbox and presumably many other people's so old messages just disappeared into the ether without any notice or consent. I wonder how much history they vaporized in total.

The one good thing that came out of their AI move was that all AI generated content is flagged as such and you can choose to filter it out if you want. But the fact they actively have their own AI generator now is such a spit in the face to actual artists lol.

yeah i can at the very least respect that it's a toggle-able thing but it's like one concession in the face of an absolute shitstorm cascade... 😔 they're trying so hard to 'look professional' and scrape off the barnacles (read: anyone who isn't building a portfolio, especially those pesky fetish accounts that they're trying to get rid of despite being the backbone of their userbase in some ways). but in this way they are disincentivizing hobbyists from staying LOL

yeah do you remember how deviantart used to look cool and work good, and then overnight everything got big and ugly and half the features went away and it's slow as shit now. that was the migration to the Wix engine lol.
