i havent seen it yet (i'll probably give it a look, borderlands isnt really my thing but might as well see how bad it is) but from this post im getting the vibes that the studio went "hey, video game movies are actually starting to pick up steam! gotta get on that! what series can we get a deal with... borderlands? never heard of it, but let's do it anyway!"

this series of posts is like watching a car sit on train tracks as a train is approaching.

anyway, yeah. borderlands tha movey. everything about it just looks completely and utterly joyless, like it's trying to emulate the goofy tone of the games but it just can't.

one of the things that bugs me about it is that one of the big defining features of borderlands, at least to me, is the comic-book artstyle, and they just kind of tossed it aside and went with Live Action But Saturated. i feel like it might have been more interesting if they went with animation or something.

yeah god. borderlands has a mix of realistic and cartoony and i definitely feel like they could have rotoscoped it to at least try to make it a bit more visually unique. but i guess that would have taken too long and cost too much so they just. didn't.
