...but I'm glad the long-standing mod of r/shmups, who spent most of the last decade contributing nothing of value while also routinely deleting anything they deemed "self-promotion" (up to and including people sharing any video content for any reason) or "emulation" (which they seemed to use interchangeably with "piracy", but also extended to discussion of any PC game beyond a store link), has finally fucked off: https://old.reddit.com/r/shmups/comments/16aak4r/rshmups_is_under_new_management_mod_help/ Someone did the math and found they were deleting over 40% of all posted content at one point, which is especially insane given they never once indicated that they even played these games.

There are so few venues available to STG devs to promote their junk that they can't really afford to be picky—like it or not, Reddit is still currently one of the more reliable and discoverable public-facing platforms to share and discuss anything, so it's nice to think that place might eventually evolve into something worthy of occasional interaction.

in reply to @gosokkyu's post:

it's particularly bad when stuff like that happens on reddit because it's one of the very first things that'll pop up when someone googles, so if a complete newcomer to something makes reddit their first stop they run the risk of seeing a bad subreddit and assuming the whole community around that thing is dead, or sucks, or whatever, and just give up on it then and there
