I actually hadn't heard of 16-bit Sensation until now, but I'm genuinely intrigued enough that I'll probably try to track down physical copies of the manga next time I'm at a Book Off. Legit cool to know there's a series out there covering the primordial days of galge development written by people who would know; it's nice to see non-console history get this sort of treatment for once.

Anyway, also genuinely impressed they announced this anime adaptation with what I'm pretty sure is a hardware appropriate 16 color palette (the PC-98's limit, for those unaware), unless my eyes are deceiving me. That's not something I expected to see when I woke up today!

this show just launched a retro novelty website (https://16bitsensation-al.com/90s/) and I think the world has officially reached its breaking point with these things—I'm not seeing a lot of light-hearted reminiscing but I am seeing a ton of defeated people loudly mourning the era when websites were navigable and responsive and would take you to new pages when you clicked on links. aint nothin "cute" about this shit anymore

While I have no interest in this series other than their commitment to the bit in their PR campaign, I am kinda bummed the series won't be like watching a walkthrough of one of these games. God knows using static illustrations would be easier on Japan's melting-down animation industry, although I'm sure that means the graphic artists would be dealing with the brunt instead.

if it makes you feel slightly better, they're having guest artists contribute end cards for each episode

like this first one, courtesy of of course it had to be this motherfucker Ken Akamatsu
