one interesting observation I've been seeing from JP game dorks over the last day or so is that Guttang Gottong/Loco-Motion/Crazy Train et al (and, to a much lesser extent, Sega's Super Locomotive and Taito's Time Tunnel) are commonly understood to have been "inspired" by Tick Tock Bang Bang, a sliding-tile board game that originated in the US as BLOCK THE CLOCK and became something of a fad when it was imported to Japan in 1981—in other words, 1982 wasn't the year of JP arcade devs all hitting upon track-switching game ideas so much as they were all drawing from the same shallow pool of influences:
