the first Puyo Puyo Grand Prix kicks off in ~2hrs (13:45 start, Japan time): 32 pro-licensed players in a round-robin + double-elimination tournament, playing for ¥1M/300k/100k payouts for 1st/2nd/3rd+4th... iirc the winner of the last big official tournament played the whole thing standing up and needed the prize money to pay for hernia surgery:

my hit rate is about as good as yours, but I swear they're going to reveal a game tonight. They really gotta announce something right about now if the Feb 24 release date is real, plus the weird Puyo Quest Twitter ads and the strange timing of this particular tournament

the way they market Puyo is so out of step with all their other games that I don't immediately assume they'll announce their new game at any of the events that might typically host a game announcement, but yeah, the clock's tickin'

my initial reaction to the Quest ads was that they're purely mistakes but the more I think about it, the more I worry that maybe their big 2/4 initiative will be PPQ English... like, that'd be insane, and the game is so obviously on its last legs in Japan that it makes no sense to not just wait until the successor game to try again in the west, but then again, if they're spinning their wheels on the next new game then maybe they can't manage anything else? I still don't actually think they'd do that, but I mean, they screwed up PSO2/NG the same way not that long ago so iunno
