City Connection's port of G.rev's 2005 vertical chopper STG Under Defeat, which was first announced at a STG-centric event a few months ago, now has a Japanese release date: it'll be out December 5 for Switch, PS4 and PS5, both digitally (¥3980), physically (¥4960, Switch/PS5 only) and as a limited-edition box with a fanbook and CD soundtrack (¥8800).
This port's based on the "HD+" version of the remaster G.rev released for X360/PS3/Nesica and includes all the DLC and content updates from that version, plus some extras like visible rank/destruction values, subtitles for the radio chatter and a new additional soundtrack by original composer Shinji Hosoe and his colleagues at Super Sweep.
a couple points:
-
City Connection has multiple different teams and methods of porting/reissuing old games; this release is being ported (not emulated) from the existing codebase by the same team behind recent X350-derived ports like Deathsmiles I+II and Akai Katana, so forget about Cotton Boomerang or the Psikyo ports or whatever because those issues won't be a factor here
-
they initially announced this port for Xbox and PC in addition to the above platforms, and I'm sure those versions are still coming—in an effort to appease global physical publishers, CC and other smaller Japanese publishers have been flip-flopping on including multi-language support in their Japanese SKUs, holding back digital releases or certain platform SKUs for the sake of a simultaneous release or one that won't undercut the orders for physical versions, etc so I'm sure they're just waiting on some publisher to get their shit together (and how long that might take, I don't know)
City Connection brought the latest Under Defeat build to Mikado's stream last weekend—jump to ~44:00 for a taste of Shinji Hosoe's new (and very F/A-esque) arrange tunes:
