across the last three days because a friend was sooo excited for the third book. i have gone a little bit insane about them. so like, core of my thoughts is (also spoilers!):
gideon blows. deeply boring creature. steeped in this very clean, very like, tumblr idea of 'pervert' that consists of blushing lightly when you see a girl in a bra. she spends so much of the first book with an internal monologue filled with deeply unimpressive jokes, not talking to anyone, and just very chastely leering at women who love how she is buff. her sunglasses and skull face paint are her best traits, and one of them is due to harrow. i think gideon the ninth; blows. its a badly paced mess of a book that wants to tell you so much lore about so many guys and doesn't actually care about the core relationship of gideon being the butch knight of a girl she hates, which brings me to;
harrow the ninth, aka, harrow my guy, my hero, harrow my love. not much of a character for so much of gideon the ninth because gideon sucks at both expressing and comprehending emotions. HOWEVER, upon losing gideon, she simply goes through it. immensely. to the point of doing necromancy brain surgery on herself to be unable to even comprehend or hear the word gideon and still throwing up whenever she sees g*deons sword. she sits on another girls chest and holds her hand while removing her arm, lovingly, hornily. she is also constantly trying to touch and kiss and fuck a corpse only she can see, which has been happening since before she started going insane. she's so nice and lovely.
HOWEVER.
its a badly paced mess of a book that wants to tell you so much lore about so many guys and doesn't actually care about the core relationships of harrow being in love with three dead women at once in different ways. this has made me oh so steaming mad. the finale, both harrows mess of interactions with characters dead and buried and gideon getting hit with one million reveals from people she doesnt know and doesnt care about, before it just Ends on a ~Big New Mystery~ is so uninteresting. it sucks. it makes me so mad. harrow does remove another girls bones and sleep with her tho. its cool. its nice. its a scene where characters connect and express feelings and thoughts. wish the book was good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! okay im normal now. yeah man ill probably read the third book in three days. im normal. sure hope more girls remove each others bones for fun and nothing else happens.
