Yes that's right as promised pictures of my favorite knots tied in various ropes of mine. Today we see the Alpine Butterfly.

This is a personal favorite because it's pretty, fun to tie, and functional.

Description

The alpine butterfly can be tied anywhere along a length of rope or cord. When tied correctly it will not slide or roll in either direction no matter how it is weighted.

Pros:

  • easy to untie even after heavy weighting
  • can be tied anywhere along the length of cord
  • Safe to weight in any direction
  • Easy to determine if tied correctly
  • Just a real cutie
  • Easy to tie even in gloves

Cons:

  • unusual method to tie makes learning slightly difficult
  • uses decent amount of rope
  • Annoying to adjust once tied

Uses

So many. A few of the more common uses are...

  • Can join multiple climbers together on a single strand such as for glacier travel or, less commonly, multiple followers on a single rope.
  • Can be used to isolate damaged sections of rope so the rest is still usable.
  • Anchor building and equalizing anchors especially when anchors are complex and have multiple fairly distant components

Introduction

Hello to cohost from me. Now that I can post its time to bring content to this site that is missing. That content involves rocks and being on and around them. Especially if the rocks are big enough to be called mountains. Basically this is where I will write into the void about any climbs I feel are cool.

About Me

I enjoy and/or know about many of the same things that people on this site seem to such as:

  • Programming
  • Electronics
  • Movies

Don't care about any of that though. I mean I do but not on this page. On this page it's all about my love of rocks outside. Been climbing over a decade and am always looking to expand the kind and types of climbs I do through improving technical skills and getting as much experience as possible.

Climbing

To me climbing has always been the nerdiest weirdest sport in the world. Climbers are nerds and many nerds I know are climbers so it seems to fit. Therefore I will fill the climbing tags with content. Look forward to such intriguing posts as:

  • Pictures of my favorite knots tied in different ropes
  • Descriptions of climbs I've done including:
    • Single pitch sport routes
    • Multi pitch alpine objectives
    • A fun scramble
    • And more
  • Pictures of a cool rock I would like to climb
  • Pictures of nuts placed into a lovely crack
  • Probably some other stuff

The End

I leave you with a photo of a carabiner that gives me good vibes just to get everyone really excited. Goodbye

An oval climbing carabiner with a screw gate. It radiates good and correct vibes.
