prizes like those aren't super uncommon, due to the regulations around cash prizes—a lot of regional circuits award winners with produce local to each venue, and I remember one VF tournament where they had everyone bring a bag of rice as entry fee/prize pool and dude ended up with like 80 bags that he couldn't take home

some TOs do the complete opposite and award people with stupid amounts of cheap snack food, usually with the expectation that the winner will just hand em out to everyone but also sometimes as a straight gag. Akira Nishitani, the president of Arika, likes to do this: the above photo was taken by the winner of the Fighting EX Layer tournament at the last EVO Japan, whose prize was ¥70k of cup noodles, delivered straight to his door
