Cosplay Project: Wikipe-tan

I, uh, feel like I learned a lesson about trying to style cheap aliexpress wigs recently. I've attached some pictures that I hope will be instructive, though I think they fail to capture the scale of the problem.

Exhibit A

How It Started and What I Intended

a light blue wig, tied into a ponytail at the factory, sitting on a styrofoam head. The computer monitor has a picture of Wikipe-tan wearing a yellow collared shirt and pointing at the TV screen, meant to evoke that picture of Leonardo DiCaprio doing the same.

How It Ended Up

Me wearing the wig after struggling with it for an hour or so. most of it is a mess, but it is managing to hold the puzzle pieces I made to match wikipe-tan's. I'm opening my mouth and pointing at the screen in some kind of imitation of the original.

What this picture doesn't capture is that I wound up cutting one hair tie because it just got hopelessly tangled up in there, and there's another that's lost in the fluff and still there to this day because getting it out would have been too much work. I underestimated how much easier a nice wig with some heft to it is to style.

Proof I Can Style A Wig

And because I heard the phrase "it is a poor worker who blames their tools" at an early age, I feel I should prove that I've done this before (with higher-quality wigs) and it worked out great. (and also, like, I'm proud of these, so here you go)

Dr. Helvetica Scenario from the Office of Consensus Maintenance! Actually the first time I ever did a ponytail. Let me tell you, it's a lot easier when you can see the back of the head you're working on.

Me, wearing my Captain Jade Scarlett cosplay. The important part here is the red, orange, and yellow fiery wig pulled into a ponytail with some heart goggles on my head. The curls look nice and thick and cohesive. I'm also wearing a leather jacket with big orange arrows on the arms with just a sports bra underneath.

And Captain Jade "Sunrise" Scarlett, a closet cosplay for a Lancer character. The goggles here would not have stayed in place on that other wig, and there's no way it would have held those bouncy little curls through into the ponytail.
