Why go programmatic when you could go manual?
Honor-system: please only tag your post with this tag if it contains other tags that are very active.
People should be able to bookmark the most recent few tags on "very active tags" posts and see an equivalent of a "very active tags" feed.
The The Cohost Global Feed feed would be a subset of the Very Active Tags feed
i genuinely wish cohost had something like this, though at the same time, i wonder if it'd go against the devs vision for the platform
I would absolutely make use of this. I like to see what people are talking about, and some kind of "active tag" feed would be nice.
trending topics are pulled from tweets with no Intent. tags are intentionally added by the user
I don't play much attention to Twitter's algorithmic content but I'm pretty sure trending topics are at least in part made up of hashtags (which are presumably intentionally applied)
one big difference is that only real freaks and the elderly use hashtags

I think, since they're Very Active Tags, lets say, top 10, anyone exploiting them will be quickly drown out.
This is basically how tiktok is. Whatever tag happens to be trending right now will just get thrown on every video big accounts post even if they're totally unrelated. though I think there the reason is more superstition re: the For You Page algorithm than people trying to get views via the tags
tbh I think it makes a lot of sense. Staff obviously designed cohost to be the anti-Twitter in a lot of ways, and sometimes Tiktok feels like "what if Vine had literally been Twitter"
the problem here is that "show me the active tags" is "show me a popularity contest"
except users can ballot stuff
it only works out when every user plays by the rules and also incentivises the exact opposite behaviour
