I'm continuing to make progress on the Saturn video. The past week has mostly been focused on Mansion of Hidden Souls.
It's a fairly short and simple game, so it wasn't hard to play through and capture footage. I wanted to include a review of the Sega CD Mansion of Hidden Souls as a point of comparison as well as to point out the story links, so I completed a playthrough of that and captured a bunch more footage.
But then I also wanted to embed some additional context and history on Mansion of Hidden Souls' developer, System Sacom. There were only eight games released for the Saturn between its November 22, 1994 launch in Japan and the end of 1994, and two of them were developed by System Sacom. (The other is Gale Racer, the port of Rad Mobile.) System Sacom is a company with a really fascinating history, and it developed quite a few games for fifth generation consoles. So I've been pulling together more research and some footage of other System Sacom games to flesh that part out.
I try to not veer too far off-topic in my game reviews, but I look at each review as an opportunity to run a thread through game history and bring in other reference points and background to flesh out a fuller picture of game history. I've been pretty excited about what I've been able to dig up on Mansion of Hidden Souls, a game that is largely dismissed in English-language game coverage, as well as System Sacom, a developer largely unknown in the West outside of hardcore game nerds.
I'm still not totally sure what the timeline will be on getting the Saturn video done, but I'm starting to get into a better rhythm of making steady progress.
