So the big news this week is that I released a preview of Saturn Side: a review of The Mansion of Hidden Souls.
I've been reluctant to release a preview since work on the final video has been going well. There's a lot more that's already done than just what's in the preview. BUT there are a few reasons why I changed my mind.
One is that I'm currently unemployed. Technically, I've been freelancing, but I haven't had any client work in around two months. I've been ramping up a job hunt and have at least one interview coming this week (tomorrow morning, actually). I'm able to get by financially for several more months, but the past year hasn't been supergreat. I'm really craving some more stability, so I'm leaning towards a full-time job as the ultimate goal, even if I freelance for a while longer to keep money coming in short-term.
I've also been spending more time on my own stuff (videos and tech) since I wrapped up my last gig. That's been really helpful in getting me to a place where things are organized enough for me to be productive when I have just an hour or two free to work. The PlayStation Experiment/Saturn Side started off a huge mess of files strewn across multiple hard drives. It's taken time to figure out the process and how to manage the absolutely massive amounts of files and information that accrues with these kinds of projects.
At this point, I want to focus on getting a stable employment situation locked down, and I'm going to treat that like a full-time job. That means that I'll be putting around the same amount of time into videos and other stuff that I would if I already had a full-time job. So that delays the final video a bit, but it's also going to help me nail down a good cadence for releasing videos. I don't want to have another five month gap between videos.
The completed Saturn Side 1 is probably going to be in the two hour range, but it will finally get all the big mess that I started with around a year ago finished and out into the world. I'm going to stick to keeping videos in the one hour range going forward, which is a much more managable length. I have a lot more confidence in my ability to deliver those on a regular basis, between the smaller scale and what I've learned from my previous videos.
Anyway, I also think The Mansion of Hidden Souls video is really good! Not every review in such a huge chronogaming series can be this in-depth, but it's a really special game to me. Plus, I get to talk A LOT about System Sacom, which is one my favorite unsung developers. Folks seem to be enjoying the video so far, and I'm really excited to keep sharing more with y'all in the future.
