Really enjoyed this. I was especially switched on when the question of "does history need to be useful?" came up! I love that question, and I personally think no it does not! 
Like with cartography and taxonomy, I'd bet significance can't always be known right away but is enriched by and enriches the surrounding context. Thank you for all you do Misty!!
I wish I’d gotten to bring it up but my dad, a historian, always insisted that history is valuable specifically because it’s the last useless social science. And I appreciate that view!
