So this thing is an obscure 1986 Famicom game called Layla. An exploratory action platformer that seems like it could be a slightly janky attempt to make something like Metroid, but given that it came out in December while Metroid came out in August, it's probably too close for that to really be the case. It is however clearly trying to be an off brand Dirty Pair game, and it's much more successful than the one official game that franchise received. Also, not only do you have a bunch of weapon options, but your sprite actually changes to reflect what you have equipped, something I haven't seen from any other game this early to this extent. A hidden gem if you can put up with 1986 game design.
