City Connection just went public with the Steam page for WiZman's World Re;Try, a remaster of Jaleco/Lancarse's Japan-only 2010 third-person dungeon crawler for DS; they'd announced this remaster well over a year ago, but this is the first confirmation of any platform, as well as the first confirmation that it's being localised. In addition to the localisation and the obvious reconfiguration for a single screen, they're rebalancing the game, touching up the visuals for HD, offering additional BGM and higher-quality source audio, etc.
I've not played this game but it's one of those games that's amassed a really active defense force who'll jump at any chance to recommend it, or pre-emptively defend it from criticism, for a couple of reasons: firstly, this game was preceded by a legendarily terrible Jaleco Wii RPG called Ougon no Kizuna, so even though the two games aren't connected beyond the publisher, it was dismissed in its day just based on the Jaleco connection; and secondly, part of Jaleco's marketing strategy involved soliciting ideas from fans and having the devs post on 2ch, which ultimately led to them adding mako8, the persona of a certain notorious game news poster/leaker, to the game as a secret encounter, among other silly character names, items, etc which predictably saw the game being written off as a memefest or whatever, irrespective of the fact that the user-voted content made up a tiny percentage of the game's contents. (City Connection's already confirmed they're replacing mako8 for the remaster.)
The original developer Lancarse has a solid pedigree working on quality dungeon crawlers at both higher and lower budgets, including big names like Etrian Odyssey and SMT, so I'm taking it on faith that all those cheerleaders are onto something.
