New blog post time!

This week, we're looking at a batch of CD-i discs that run the gamut from a virtual museum to edutainment to breast cancer awareness. The CD-i has something for everyone and I'm more than happy to dig in!

This is the first in who knows how many posts about the wonderful world of the CD-i and its software that goes beyond conventional console video games. I don't know when the next one will be, but it'll happen at some point! For this week, I've got three randomly chosen discs that each attempt to educate the user on completely different things. The Forbidden City is about the titular Chinese palace complex located in Beijing and the disc we have here lets you thoroughly explore its history. Breast Self-Examination teaches the user about breast cancer, how to examine oneself for signs of it, and how to reach out to your doctor to get proper treatment. Yearn2Learn: Peanuts is an edutainment game that uses the iconic comic strip as a basis for a series of edutainment minigames. How successful are they at educating users is the question we'll be answering here, so if you're curious about some CD-i discs you never hear about, let's take this dive together and have some fun with it!

It is pretty cute, at first I wasn't so hot on it since the animation is pretty basic, but the more I played, the more I ended up thinking it fit in its own unique way.

I never got to experience games on Mac, so it's nice to know this game also works as a lens into the games of that era, which is pretty cool. I would like to check out some older Mac stuff sometime for sure!
