i love metal gear as much as the next person but every time i learn a new metal gear trivia factoid about how kojima originally wanted to do some stupid bad thing with a female character before his staff talked him out of it - stuff like "in mgs2 emma was supposed to have her period while swimming with raiden, and then later her final words after being shot were supposed to be 'i'm fine, it's just my period'" - i realize how dangerously close kojima was to becoming the japanese david cage

Unfortunately, it'd take a LOT of effort to reach Cage's level of misogyny. Remember: this is a dude that had a fully nude accurate model of Elliot Page's character in the game files, had multiple scenes that inbolved Elliot Page's character immediately experience sexual assault that you had to "fight" your way out of, and most of Madison's "solo" content in Heavy Rain being about using her Sexual Wiles (performing a lapdance for a Weird Dancr Club owner) or heing in serious physical/sexual danger (having to escape from a creepy doctor that drugged her to abduct her, the entire side dlc about her investigating another creepy doctor that makes mannequins out of women he's killed).

This is how it's supposed to work. Your crazy auteur guy says "here's an idea" and then somebody else on the staff will shut it down if it's bad. Like if you can entrust somebody else to being the voice of reason it only makes you look like a better director.

I like to think the not-becoming-david-cage part is more important than never having david-cage-ass ideas. Which is to say I hope he's still workin' with the people that talk him out of these ideas.
