did the firing of the ultimate weapon, in addition to All The Other Things, also have an outsized impact on the Ordinary Animal population such that pokemon not only became the dominant form of fauna (as they are in gens 1-5) but practically almost the only form? like... in the gen 1 and 2 timeline, even if you dont see them directly their presence is very clearly A Thing; in gens 3 through 5, they're not as Implicitly Also There Offscreen as they once were but you can still feel their impact i think. but come gen 6 and onward it feels like pokemon are much more leaned into as being The Only Animals yknow?

am i crazy. am i nuts. am i cuckoo bananas for thinking this could be a thing and that the ultimate weapon had a serious effect on the Normal Animal population

in reply to @gull's post:

That sounds like a neat headcanon for just how bad the Ultimate Weapon was when it was used in the ancient past, TBH.

Especially if you apply how Ancient Past society treated Pokemon (if the Arceus movie is any indication).

a related headcanon i thought of that session in the shower is that the gen 1-2 timeline and gen 3-5 timeline are mainly separated by how dominant pokemon are within them, like, as a field of study? like, in gen 1-2 and its auxilliary materials it's pretty consistent that - though they've existed for a long-ass time - the actual study of pokemon is still relatively recent and unexplored. to the point where by poke-1996 the scientific community of pokejapan hasn't gotten in touch enough with itself to organize a national index of their Pokémon and popular consciousness still holds that their region's pokemon are The Only Ones, and even in poke-1999 Eggs and pokemon evolution are under-studied enough for Elm to get super fucking excited over getting his hands on any pokemon egg. meanwhile in gen 3 onwards before the mega timeline, pokemon are a much better established field such that even by the time the fall of Team Rocket is set in motion scientific progress and communication is already much further along than it was, and more than that the cultural roots run even deeper than they did at their equivalent points in the gb games

... actually this should be a seperate post oops
