please wishlist Virtue's Heaven on Steam!
Was recording some footage of Virtue's Heaven's current build for a Patreon Update (you can subscribe to it here!) and by pure chance managed to capture the perfect representation of what I want the ideal version of Virtue's Heaven to look like.
In the video I talked about how I realised that I made a big mistake in trying to push the game into a more ponderous, deliberate form of combat (to put it more in line with what's currently cool in the Indie-Metroidvania space) and how I should instead motivate players to be way more reckless in how they approach the game.
The movement system never really was build for that kind of combat anyway, but I retroactively tried to push it into a shape it didn't fit into.
Because of the game's fairly limited screen size and it's relatively fast pace, you will eventually run into situations where you blindly launch yourself into potential danger. This should be done with excitement and joy and not with hesitation and fear of failure.
The game's still far away from a state where I feel that most players will have the experience that I would like them to have, but what you see in those eight seconds up there to me is a sign that I'm on the right track.
