something that bothers me about How Gen 2 Gets Talked About is the pokedex. i feel like it goes very underdiscussed that the idea of the "Johto Pokédex" is an invention of the remakes - the pokedex in gen 2 is explicitly the "New Pokédex", the most current pokedex including all known pokemon (in Johto and Kanto, at least), numbered consistently with the earlier pokedex but ordered by default to bring evolution families closer. like... of course not all the new guys in the dex are in Johto, you dingbats, they found a lot of these new guys in Kanto too and the game makes no claims otherwise. is it unsatisfying that they aren't all in johto? kinda sure yeah, but like... i feel like it's pretty cool also. just gotta work to exorcise the concept of the Regional Pokedex being king from your brainhole yknow. old places deserve to have new guys properly found and documented too
