hi hello i post dog. this guy, specifically:
![]()
he loves you, and hopes you love yourself too. i want him to be a candle in the dark, i.e. not really doing much, sure, but still there. something to hold onto if you need it.
you just have to be a whole person, not ONLY do self promotion
also please be a whole person on another instance, because here on science-only.social that's off-topic
but yeah the parts of this whole discussion I saw were about a half-dozen posts from mastodon.art from people saying "this is a completely insane standard to expect people to live up to" and exactly zero people all day actually boosting anyone's artwork
while i don't doubt your personal experience of this, most of my feed on both my public and personal mastodon accounts are people boosting writing and art, and my entire exposure to this discourse has been people saying how silly it is. just like here, good moderation makes for good spaces, and good personal curation helps a lot too.
im planning on sticking with it and maybe my curation will improve it. it's certainly giving me an education on where to avoid.
Yeah, Kolektiva is one of those communities I really used to like, but they fell victim to letting in too many people too quickly without scaling up moderation, and it's an issue. Weirder Earth is defederating from them soon.
While we live in capitalism I DO still have to make money to live soooooooooooooooooo not sure what to tell you mastodon
Sigh. Every time I think about maybe, possibly heading to mastodon something like this happens. It sounds like somehow a less accessible twitter with even worse drama. 🤷♀️
I don't know if I lucked out but like - I joined .art and not only is it encouraged to share your store links / promote your stuff, there's no 'art only!!! keep on topic!!!11' rules that other instances seem to have.
I keep seeing horror stories about masto admins and instances going feral on each other and I am thankful to not have experienced any of it yet 🤔🤔
Is the complaint that people they're following are promoting too much or that there's too much promotion in the local/federated feed? I'm really not sure how the solution to this isn't just don't follow or do mute people who make posts you don't want to see
I can 100% guarantee that these people going off about self-promotion have never had to hustle to make a living.
the unicorn of the fediverse: I just want a reliably populated server that 1. lets me post art 2. is friendly to sex work/workers 3. won't yell at me for posting food or pictures of bugs without a content warning
We just shouted Elon Musk down on Twitter over this shit LMAO
