Reminded of the time a long time ago when Alexander Brandon and Jeremy Soule both ran Kickstarters to make albums at around the same time (this was before the shit Soule did came out). Brandon's KS was pretty modest and straight-forward, basically "hey, I want to make an album". The turnaround ended up being pretty quick, under half a year, I think, and also I guess because of some stretch goals, or just because Brandon felt like it, everyone ended up getting a whole second album, as well. Both albums, Just Fun and Just Fun Miami were pretty nice! Stuff you would enjoy if you enjoyed, for example, the music in Deus Ex.
Soule's KS was...he spent a lot of time talking about how he needed all this money (significantly more than Brandon was asking) because not only did he need to "invent new technologies" to make the music he wanted to make, but he also needed to take a trip to Scandinavia, for inspiration. I believe at first there was no digital-only option, only "pre-order one CD" and "pre-order two CD's".
The resulting album, The Northerner Diaries, took years to finally get released, at least 3 going by the date VGMdb has. It was basically The Skyrim Original Soundtrack Part 2.
Anyway, I think about this sometimes.
