Been taking the littlest bites of Disco Elysium, normally a couple hours at the beginning of a work day while I wait for my meds to kick in. To nobodies surprise I really enjoy it so far. I want talk about how phenomenal the writing is in relation to other games in its ancestry but that almost feels like a disservice to make the comparison.

Games are a medium so plagued with performative both-sides-ism and rhetorical shielding that it feels wildly out of left field for a game to engage with actual real life honest to god politics outside of sloppy metaphor. If I heaped a bunch of praise on Disco Elysium for that I'd just be doing the barebones acknowledgement that it is, in fact, a story that was written and not a power fantasy written by some terminally incurious californian guys.

I'm also not much of a reader, so while I feel largely on top of reading comprehension (given routine time to digest) I do feel a bit out of my depth waxing poetic about it. Hopefully my big wet brain continues to expand.
