The one thing both Tumblr and Cohost are sorely missing for me is the ability to turn off reblogs/shares1 in my feed for individual people. There are people who's thoughts are compelling or meaningful to me but who also have a very different threshold for what constitutes a worthwhile reblog and sometimes I just want to stamp it out like a poopfire on my front step.

  1. Did twitter actually pop off with this feature? Surely they weren't the first to do this... right?

in reply to @harlow's post:

I... can't think of another social media site that has the feature, so... I'm not sure if Twitter was the first but they've definitely done it the best so far. I'd also probably argue they're the site that needs it the most; it's one thing for people to reblog super long ass fucking posts on tumblr, but at least that's one post... old people on Twitter LOVE to retweet every single tweet in a thread instead of just the lead tweet, which obliterates Twitter's use case as an ultra-fast platform that uses its screen real estate effectively

but anyways same lol. the thing I want even more than this tho is a request I don't think... would work... but I wish that if like 10 people reshare the same post it could compress it somehow with a little tag that just says like "a bunch of people you follow shared this!" so I don't have to spend a full minute scrolling past all the reshares

I know there's a userscript that lets you hide shares entirely as a toggle on the homepage, but nothing about turning it off for specific people yet. That & userscripts don't really work properly if you aren't on a desktop. Hopefully it gets added someday...
