Despite being named Gargoyle, he's a creature of animated stone created from a grotesque, which is one of the stone creatures that sits on churches and other buildings and is often referred to as a gargoyle (It will correct you about this!!) Gargoyle is one of my newer characters that honestly doesn't have a whole lotta lore atm.
I mean, one minute it's sitting completely inanimate on a run down church, the next he's been given life by some incredible sorcerer! I guess it's just sorta gotta figure out what to do with itself now, ehehe.
