once Lynwood Link opens (scheduled for this summer, August if I remember correctly?) University Street station will be officially renamed to Symphony station. As far as I'm aware this is the first time one of our stations will be renamed! exciting. No more will the "stay on train for University of Washington campus" announcement play.
also of note, the $3 flat fares will be beginning concurrent with Lynwood Link, meaning no more tap-on tap-off (theoretically? still in the works)
i'm gonna laugh so hard if they make link flat-fare and then somehow don't stop requiring tap-off
the only reason I can think of for them keeping tap off is for station boarding/exit metrics but with such a low number of customers properly doing that as-is it's hard to say lol? plus there are automated passenger counters on each train car sooo... but there's also been so much investment in station redesigns to encourage proper tapping that will have to be redone AGAIN lmao
yeah it feels… whatever the opposite of future-proofed is a lot of the time 😣
the board is composed of people who really don't have any business being part of the decision making process for a regional transit agency
one month later update, officially we will not require tap off at stations, only tap-on. essentially Link will operate like the bus system on August 30th assuming Lynnwood Link isn't delayed (unlikely but knock on wood)
