so apparently part of the reason everything is going to complete shit at bungie is that, as part of their deal they made with sony when they got bought, bungie has to be hitting certain revenue targets to maintain a level of independence or else sony is allowed to basically dissolve the existing leadership and take control of the whole thing. The buyout was during the time everyone recognized covid was still a thing so I'm gonna go on a limb and assume said targets are even more absurdly inflated and based on "the boost growth we're experiencing now is never going to end, actually" that revenue targets usually are, and because Pete Parsons accepted said godawful deal he's now cutting everything to the bone so that Herman Hurst doesn't take take over the studio and turn it into "Naughty Dog Bellevue" or whatever

yeah i saw the article on ign real grim stuff! one asks what is the point of firing everyone and ruining the vibe to "keep your independence" when the number one biggest worry about being incorporated into sony's structure is they would fire everyone and ruin the vibe. obviously all management are engaging in the same capitalist evil but this bungie story just has this extra twist of total cowardice on top of it that really brings it together.

Like this makes sense only if you see Bungie Leadership think that the only people who matter are the old heads/founders of the company, like from the Marathon days. This has kind of been a behavior I have seen a lot in the news stories/drama coming out of Destiny's development over the years.

It’s really cool seeing the the posts from 2018- saying “well y game maker being bought by a big publisher means they have more money to do stuff :) it’s fine and good even” being borne out this way
