Inspired by @toadsanime, I thought I'd write a bit of an introductory post!
My name is Steve! Former game journalist (published in Game Informer, The Escapist, others), former game production and narrative person (Orwell series, Hacknet Series, Stillness of the Wind, others), and current digital agency manager living in Tokyo, Japan. I moved here just over three years ago now, right before the pandemic started, which has definitely been a challenging change.
I'm still very much connected to games in my current role. We currently work with developers and publishers of all sizes, which is great to keep my toe in the water, but I have the chance to learn a bunch of new skills which has been super interesting. The dream is to come back to full-time development at some point, but you have to go where the paychecks happen is how life goes sometimes.
I still do some games criticism via my own blog and a YouTube channel called Pixels for Breakfast. I really love all things indie, and rarely find myself playing current AAA games for longer than a few hours before bouncing back to something new.
Outside of games, I'm very into music, photography, and I've recently taken up cycling which has been life changing... literally, I had a massive accident earlier this year that left me in hospital for a few weeks, and now I have a metal plate in my jaw!
Talk to me about Japan. Talk to me about games. Talk to me about anything. Very excited and optimistic about being here on Cohost. Feels more personal. I like that.
