@staff are on record as saying that they're committed to allowing as much content here as they feasibly can, forever. supporting payment for it is on the roadmap as well. and since Cohost is worker-owned, they're never going to be squeezed into censorship by VC overlords looking to transmute an audience into a profit

this is really spectacular in 2023, when Apple is busy squeezing the internet into its vision of perfectly manicured censorship, Tumblr is parading around "we allow breasts again as long as you don't get horny" as though it's some kind of win, and Patreon is cheerfully kicking off anyone who admits they've heard of sex. we're so blessed to have this place

every time i get to type "#pornography" into the tags, even though i know it's not entirely necessary with the Adult Content checkbox that's built into the site (!), it feels like a little victory

honestly for me, tagging stuff as "#furry porn" just feels like i'm putting it there just so people can see it. it feels less like a warning and more like a sign i'm waving with an arrow on it that says "furry porn right here if you wanna see it". it's sharing.

I absolutely agree, although I do wish Cohost did a little better in letting people avoid it who don't want to see it. Unless your account is under 18, its easy to find porn posts all over the place. And while they're hidden behind a clickthrough by default, there's no way to prevent them from appearing at all and it can hinder the browsing experience. I hope that changes, as well as hiding blacklisted tags entirely too.

Cause when I want to invite my ace friends who really don't want to see that stuff and then they check out the #art tag and it's over 50% porn, that kind of becomes a hard sell.

I think clickthrough should be default but there definitely needs to be a full opt-out.

Yeah even as a user who's less sensitive to that, I really really want to be able to completely hide certain tags that I know I never want to see. Some of the tags I browse have a lot of stuff that frankly just isn't my kink and having to scroll past it all the time is really annoying.
