oops, i'm still brainrotting!

this is technically ffxiv related, but even if you knew ffxiv well you'd probably be hard pressed to figure out how. i might clean it up one day, but the messiness of it kind of adds to the vibe in some respects. ludus is a sad, broken creature, who has lost almost all shreds of who they used to be, with only fleeting impressions of memories to go off of. many things confuse them, but they have at least one person to anchor them and soothe them when things get too much.

i couldn't decide at first whether i wanted to go for sleek/elegant or jagged/monstrous. i guess i kinda ended up with both! i'm always a sucker for white/gold and glowy stuff.

for the initiated: (warning for late shadowbringers spoilers)
this is xephre's form in a Bad Ending where they succumb to the light and become a lightwarden. the six wings and the tail design come from their enshrouded form, which in itself is derived from the three raven-like voidsents with whom they've formed a pact. i considered making their wings black but the lightwarden vibes are too good. and they're a dragon because, well, dragon. technically they're not a dragon as far as the world of ffxiv is concerned, but you know.

i wrote a 1000-word one-shot about it! you can read that here!

i got back into flight rising semi recently and i've been plugging away at a new adopt. i've had one in the works for imperials for literal years, but my brain would not stop asking me to make a wildclaw one, because wildclaws are my second favourite breed after skydancers, and i already have a skydancer base. so i sat down and posed and sketched and lined it all in one night. then over the next few days i templated some of the most popular genes.

i'm really happy with this one! i usually prefer thicker lineart so i can do more variation, but it's gotten me in trouble with my previous adopt bases haha. so i thought i'd swing completely in the other direction this time. i gotta say i like it! i'm also getting more and more accustomed to the shading style and how each gene works.

get yours here!

a group photo of all the masters together! mostly because i wanted to ramble a bit more about the process as a whole.

i've had sketches of these guys kicking around for years. i mean, to be fair, most of my unfinished work has been kicking around for years. but i'd always wanted to get them done, and i started churning on them and then realized it was smaugust, so what better time to buckle down and Just Do It?

my primary focus when it comes to design is shape and silhouette. i don't think much about patterns, and colour is something i'm kind of in the middle of grasping. it shows in my choice of clothing irl - i rarely choose prints, typically going for solid colours and graphic tees. i really have to push myself to come up with patterns for my ocs, but that's something i wanted to do with these guys.

as i said in the post for movement, these are going to be in a comic, and i'm going to hate myself for desigining them this way then. their involvement in the story is yet to be solidified, but at least a couple of them will feature semi-prominently. i'm not saying i'm going to pick the ones that are the easiest to draw... but i might pick the ones that are the easiest to draw. we'll see if the story demands something different.

there is one more dragon i'm working on designing, but he's a major character in the story and i need to get him right. but i finally sketched something the other day that felt Right, so i'm going to push on that and see if i can fit him in for smaugust.

Ruluret | she/her

Master of Time (hastia/patientis)

smallish, like a kangaroo. i think. i haven't seen a kangaroo in a while. as a function of her time powers, she has a tendency to let years pass by her without moving. no one, including her, is sure how long she's really lived because of this.

i had a minor existential crisis designing her because, uh, nature doesnt do digital racing stripes. except this is my world, with magic, and my magic is geometric. so i said fuck it and kept going. despite my personal colour preferences living in the cool-green-to-warm-blue range, this is the only cool coloured dragon of the lot! it just didn't really seem to fit the others.
