This happened to me once recently as well, and I've only done a little reading on it, so take this as a guess: I think YT and uBlock/etc are in the middle of a quiet, escalating war of changing up the underlying structure of how ads are shown on YT, to try and get past the adblockers, but uBlock keeps up almost perfectly. Sometimes, you might watch a video just before an update for uBlock's filters occurs, and catch an ad.

I'm expecting YT to try and push their stupid 3-strikes policy, but they might be finding it difficult to prevent video playback in browser even when an adblocker is detected, because, utlimately, people can just jump into a private window with the URL to watch said video.

It's probably even possible to automate that process such that there's no perceptible change in YT function for people using adblockers. And they don't want to try to survive the brand-death (and other huge ad revenue loss) that will occur if they close off public/logged-out viewing, so they're trying all other options first.

That's my uneducated guess. Could be entirely wrong.
