an extremely cool robot. sometimes i play as a lizard girl in an MMO. unironic linux user.
i think one of the things that frustrates me about cohost is that it feels kind of culturally homogenous in a way that tumblr very much doesn't
this is fair
it is nice to have a place with, uh, our people
which appears to mean disabled queer techies of our exact age, and the younger crowd who are interested in what we have to say (thanks all, it's very flattering)
but yes, homogenous
i am frustrated by the common response to [Technology Thing] being a mixture of {assuming the worst case scenario, assuming the new thing is unambiguously worse than the old thing, liking or being neutral towards the new thing is factually or morally wrong}. it feels like "OMG Facebook TOS says they own your images!" but for {mastodon, webp, forums, ai, markdown syntax, bluesky, imgur, itchio, piracy, discord numbers}.
i get the response. i get that cohost is a site which partially selects for this type of user. its not wrong to have the initial response and i even partially agree with it the majority of the time, but i am also frustrated by seeing "Here is why the sky is falling" posts every other week or so
yeah this isn't the only thing i was thinking of with the cultural homogeny (political/sense of humor homogeny) but i definitely find the tech attitude that's pervasive on here annoying
