this just feels impossible. circa 1.5 years of that was the time i knew about and was most invested in the game and it felt like the “minecraft alpha” period lasted a really long time, let alone the “minecraft beta” period. by the time 1.0 came out i'd moved on to non-minecraft things

this is the thing where time passage in your adolescence feels different to time passage as an adult, isn't it? i'm not old (i'm still closer to 25 than to 30…) but this makes me feel old

minecraft hasn't been minecraft since they added hunger in minecraft beta 1.8. but really, minecraft to me will always be minecraft alpha, in my heart. and minecraft classic. what do you mean minecraft alpha was 12 years ago. what do you mean the kids don't know what “minecraft alpha” was 😭

I think I resented the loss of inventory and action bar space the most. Like, now I need to permanently reserve a slot for this. The rest of the hassle feels like a challenge that you overcome once, figuring out how to build a mechanism that generates food with the smallest effort, but the slot is consumed forever. It's just not practical to go around without food in hand.
