The time to "get into" retro games is when the "new" generation is several years old and people are unloading their "previous" generation consoles.

The PS2 is 3 generations ago
The PS1 and N64 are 4 generations old

etc

The amazing thing about video games though is that a rom is a rom. Being on a cartridge doesn't instill magical properties.

You did miss the boat on NES/SNES/N64/GC era retro collecting. Fear not, all of those games are still playable thanks to the community! Go honor their hard work that preserved and made these games playable on a $35 computer the size of a credit card and play a super mario world romhack where the levels are all renamed after weed jokes.

in reply to @hkr's post:

old audio equipment nerds are still mostly stuck in the realm of magical thinking, so many of them would say that new clones of old equipment would lack the "warmth" of the older stuff with little facts to back that statement up.

We do absolutely make new stereos that sound just as good, if not better than the old stuff. That would still leave room for retro aesthetic but more modern internals imo.
