I am a Dragon Quest poser. My first DQ was Dragon Quest XI for the personal computer. It was my favorite, and probably in my top 10 RPGs.
But I could not let my having not played the other Dragon Quests stand, so yesterday I started playing Dragon Quest for the NES (via the excellent Dragon Quest Delocalized patch). I permitted myself to use save states because I have ten of these to play and even I'm too old to deal with the punishing grind that game presents. I rolled credits today after save scumming the final boss asleep and then creating a save state every time I successfully dealt one damage to him and he didn't wake up. 130 damage later and I'm done.
So here so far is my official list of Best Dragon Quests:
- Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age (PC)
- Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior in the USA) (NES)
I wasn't very far but I do not want to redo a bunch of the grinding I did.
