but I am telling you the truth when I say I had an easier time dual booting freeBSD with Windows XP in 2003 than I am having installing any flavor linux on my current desktop

like, there are other issues to address, but arch has completed all steps of my checklist:

  • install on an external drive
  • install my nvidia drivers
  • install steam and play a game with the proton compatibility layer

It's honestly sad that Arch is kinda the most stable distro around. It ain't easy to install but once it's running it rarely breaks. I've used the same installs for years at a time and the only reason I reinstall is that I'm moving to a new drive. I sadly can't say the same about any other distro I've used.
