The fun of early twitter was trying to be as succinct as possible in exactly 140 characters. Some of the best tweets of the time were formed due to this limit. In many ways, a 140 character tweet was like writing poetry.

280 characters removed a lot of that feeling.

Now that you can just post whatever the fuck you want with no limit, twitter is just another place to post screeds like this

nailing the 140 character limit felt good, too. back in the irc days we had a bot that would post the text of tweets that were linked, and if it was 140 exactly it'd add a little *twoosh* at the end
